Feb 25/03 This is 'Corey'.  He is approx 4 yros, schnauzer patterned, neutered with natural ears and docked tail.  I was contacted by the THS regarding this dog - he had been brought into the shelter in horrible condition.  Because of his condition they wanted to house him for a short period of time so that they could get him shaved down and assessed - they also went ahead and ran several skin biopsies because of the condition of his feet and skin - his ears were swollen and almost completely shut due to infection. At this time he weighed 79 lbs - should probably weigh in at approx 95 lbs (he's a very tall and large boned dog).

Mar 12/03 Kathleen and I went to the HS today and picked up Corey.  I went into his kennel, took one look and sat down and cried - he was absolutely pathetic - he can barely walk as his feet are swollen to twice their normal size. He is covered in sores.

Mar 13/03 I had Corey to the vets today - he is on very strong antibiotics to try and heal his ears and skin - he will need several Nizoral baths and his feet treated and bandaged.

Mar 28/03 Corey is doing much better - although his feet are still swollen the raw redness is almost gone.  He is putting on weight - now weighs approx 82 lbs.  Corey's ears are still in very bad condition so will speak with the vets regarding having him put under and his ears flushed.

Some of Corey's true personality is coming thru - he's very loving but cautious of strangers (and having his ears touched).  He appears to like other dogs, will approach other dogs kennels with his little stub wagging. He likes to go for walks and is very good in the car when I take him to the vets.  Sharon, the kennel owner where Corey is staying, spends a great deal of time with him and he absolutely loves her.

June 18/03  I made the decision today to free Corey from his confusion and pain.  He had gained weight to a whopping 91 lbs!!  BUT was becoming more and more aggressive - specifically with men.  He was obviously NOT a happy dog, he just wanted everyone to leave him alone - I took him this afternoon to be assessed by my trainer who is experienced with Malinois etc (my own dogs are training there) and he felt that Corey was always 'loaded' and would eventually hurt someone - he even tried to take an unprovoked bite on Mike. Corey was also still limping quite badly on the right rear foot and his other feet were still very swollen, although hair was growing back.  I did a lot of soul searching and felt that the best thing was to free him to cross the bridge where he is now whole and no one will ever hurt him again.....Fly free Corey!!
