Carl and Leta had been to visit with Holly and it was a perfect match - Holly needed to
be an 'only child' with people that were active and would spend a lot of time with her. Holly was so glad to see her 'dad' Carl and spent time exploring her new yard and all the gardens. We spent
a couple of hrs there while Holly explored the house and made herself comfortable. We rec'd the below email from her new 'parents'...
Hi Kathleen and Margo,
I will be typing here and there during the
weekend to let you know how things are going.
1. She is such a wonderful dog, she just loves to be cuddled to let her know that everything will be OK. You can tell she needs reassurance that all is well.
2. Leta came home for lunch on Saturday, Holly's tail was 'justa' wagging. After Leta went back to work, Holly and I laid down for awhile to 'unwind her'. Later, we went for a walk down to the school yard
just down the street from us. It was a short walk, but it was the least challenging mentally for her. She is a great dog to walk. Went #2 again then ripped up the grass after.
3. After drying her up, we
went into the livingroom and she started showing me that things are going to be alright. She came over to me sat down in front of me and wanted to be pet again, she laid down at my feet wanting her belly
scratched. In a short time she was asleep at my feet, I got up a short time later, she stayed there and went back to sleep. I went back out to the livingroom and she was just laying there so I laid on the
floor with her. She never flinches or seems uncomfortable with doing that or petting her (like rubbing her eyes or inside her ears, or touching her legs, nice to know.)
4. After Leta was done work we went
down to buy some dog food and another stainless steel dish. I opened up the tailgate of the 4Runner, she jumped up before I could get her ready and she slipped, so I picked her up and put her in. The back
seat was up but that didn't stop her from jumping over it and up into the driver's seat. (Not used to that). I see what you mean by chasing cars inside the truck. Leta was correcting her on that.
5. The
time to go to bed, we had her blankey beside the bed, but she wasn't to sure if that was were she wanted to sleep. She seen us get into bed, so her not being to sure what to do, she made an attempt to hop up
in the bed too. Correction was needed 'off'. She was a little restless for awhile or was that Leta or both. All in all, it wasn't too bad. It looks like she isn't stressed anymore, must have something to do
with being the only child. She was fine just as soon as she figured out that there wasn't anybody else that she had to share her new home with. We played with her toys, the rope and monkey. After that Holly
followed Leta around while she was trying to get ready for work.
6. Took her for 2 walks Sunday, one in the morning to the school, then to the field. The other in the afternoon downtown to see Leta when
she was done work. Holly is not to sure about the cars going by.
We believe that everything will be just fine.
Thank you so much for everything you have done so far.
