Nov 20/01 I have a little (approx 3 kg) senior (probably 10-12 yrs) female toy poodle or possible Yorkie/poo - her back was been broken in 2 places and had begun to heal incorrectly.  she was kept by the HS for 6 weeks without receiving medical attention before I got her. She has had to drag her backend so has no patella's left and has some muscle wasting in the rear end.  she is incredibly sweet! and loving.

I have named her 'Jewel' (because she's so 'precious').  She is housetrained (but if you leave paper down, she will relieve herself on it) and must be carried in and out to potty as she can't do stairs. She can now walk but 'scrabbles' and is on Metacam for the arthritis and pain.  Jewel also has a slightly enlarged heart so she is on Lasix and Prednisone.  So far her exrays and expenses have cost me over $400.  I know it's stretching things a little, but if anyone knows of a wonderful retirement home that would be willing to just let her live out whatever life she has left, pls let me know.  If not, she will just spend her last days here with me - I was just hoping that someone would take her as an only 'child' and spoil her rotten, I guess I always feel bad when they have to be a member of a pack. For further info pls contact Margo Illing at pitabouv@sympatico.ca.

Dec27/01 Sadly, today I had to help little Jewel across the Bridge.  She was having more and more trouble breathing because of her enlarged and failing heart.  We had tried several different medications but unfortunately she began to have seizures and it was decided that there wasn't anything more that we could do for her.  Jewel was incredibly sweet and loving and tried very hard to follow me from room to room - she will be missed!  You're safe now little girl.
