Nov 1/02  This is 'Shayr' - she is a 1.5 yro spayed Bouvier/Wolfhound X, up to date on shots, heartworm neg., and microchipped. Weighs approx 85 lbs.

Shayr needs an owner that is very consistent and who is willing to socialize, give her some training and to provide the stability and structure to help her overcome her lack of self confidence.  Shayr is very loving but frightened of new things - she gets along well with other dogs if properly introduced and is absolutely terrified of cats!!  A home with no small children would be best and preferably with someone that isn't gone for long periods of time.  For more info pls contact Margo Illing pitabouv@sympatico.ca

Shayr has been in foster with us (my husband Gord and I) since approx the beginning of December 2002.

She came to us extremely unsure of everything.  One could not blame her, as her life has been fairly topsy turvey in the last year.

Shayr has blossomed in that month going from being scared of even looking at my dogs to shoulder checking them and playing with them.  She cleans her dish to the point it is almost clean enough to put back in the cupboard without washing it.  When she came here, it took awhile for her to even finish a cup of food:  vegetables and fruits were a foreign entity to her, now get out of her way, she wants her share too. She now sits when it is suppertime and waits for the okay to eat.   She loves to sit in front of you and get scratches and will turn around to get her bum scratched just like my guys do.  Cookies are a great treat for her too - she will sit and put her paw up to pay for the treat.  She goes on walks with Gord and our guys - she does need some work in that area but doesn't pull, just wanders all over the place. A little polish (one on one) will do wonders.

Shayr has learned a lot in just watching and has the potential to learn so much more in the right home. She does have a ways to go and still has a few things that bother her (does not like to be taken by the collar and led in – she thinks that she is going to be crated).  For some reason that bothers her. Shayr needs patience and time especially when introducing anything new, but she now is learning to adapt quickly.

With time and the right family the sky is the limit.

Shayr has been adopted officially on the 16th of March, 2003!!  Correspondence with the Douglas family had been going back and forth on the possibilities of meeting her.  The family came down to the Sportsman Show on the final Sunday and met Shayr.  They went away to talk about it and came back with a unanimous vote of YES!!.  Shayr went home with them on a foster agreement and I (Kathleen) went up and finalized the adoption the following week.  The Douglas's are a family of five, the parents and three girls.  Shayr has chosen one of the girls as her own and is learning she has to follow the rules from everyone.  She appeared confident and happy in her new environment, even barking a word or two at Harley about her new home.  Good Luck Shayr, you certainly deserve it!!
