Dear, sweet Talia came to me unwanted, lonely and confused. She didn't understand what was happening to her. I found out that she had been
in at least 4 previous homes - all inexperienced with bouviers - their greatest complaints were that she "passed gas" after eating and was always underfoot. A wonderful,
older couple from Oshawa contacted me about coming to see her. They had just lost their 10 yro bouv and still had an 8 yro female bouv that was lonely. Talia "came alive" when this people
arrived, she rubbed up against them and danced around the kitchen. They just couldn't understand why anyone would have given her up.At last report, Talia is chasing her new "sister" around the
kitchen table, insisting on early morning breakfasts and loving her new "mom and dad". They think she's perfect!! |

UPDATE September 26, 2000 We still marvel at our good fortune in adopting Talia. She is just a wonderful dog. Spends lots of
time outdoors, and whether indoors or outdoors, frequently comes and checks on Joan and I. She just comes over to us, so that we can talk to her up close, waits for a scratch on the head or body, or
rub under the chin, then goes back to one of her favourite spots and lies down again. We know she listens while Joan and I talk to each other. Just two days ago she proved it again. I said to Joan
"Are you going for your walk now?" Talia was lying on the floor round a corner. At the word 'walk' she got to her feet and came bounding, and do mean BOUNDING to me, tail wagging furiously, tongue
out , ears forward, panting. At 28 inches at the shoulder she now weighs 105lbs ( up from 82lbs when she came to us), and this on only three and a half cups of food a day. We still
smile as she "burps" after eating. I smile because the thought comes to mind "Better than letting it sneak out some other way." |

Jan 5/03 Sadly I received the below email - Talia was a wonderful dog that finally found her 'perfect' parents, her time of joy and love was way too short -
Thank you Robert and Joan for giving her three years, I wish it had been longer, she certainly deserved it!! We'll all miss you terribly! Jan 2/03 We lost
Talia to cancer today. Since the beginning of December she had had a few "off" days, but always seemed to bounce back, tail wagging furiously, rubbing up against us. Then between Christmas and new
years day in just six days she went down. The last two days she did not eat and drank very little. This evening we got the results of Xray and bloodwork which showed a four inch round growth in her gut
plus a long two inch wide tumour curved around her liver. Her red blood cell count was low and her white blood cell count was elevated. The diagnosis was tumours of an extremely aggressive nature. So our
decision was obvious and of course very, very painful. We loved that dog!! In the last few minutes I spent with her she still managed put her head up against my chest. It has been very quiet
around the house this evening. The only words Joan has said is "I don't want another dog." I hope that will change with the passing of time. We had Talia for almost three years. Thank
you for that, and for your help during that time. Yours aye Bert |
